Eligibility Open to work made with fiber or fiber techniques (including but not exclusive to quilting, knitting, crochet, tatting, weaving, spinning, felting, etc) or with elements that reference fiber or fiber traditions. If selected, work must be sent ready for hanging or display. The width of submitted work (both two-dimensional and three-dimensional), including any frame, may not exceed 60 inches; length may not exceed 60 inches. Work shall not exceed 15 pounds. Framed works will only be accepted with plexiglass - absolutely no glass. All work must be for sale.

 

Entry Requirements Artists must enter online. One $35 entry fee covers up to three entries. Entry fees are non-refundable. Each entry may be represented by up to two digital images: one required overall view and one optional detail view. Digital images must be of professional quality in jpeg format, minimum 300 dpi resolution and 1800 pixels on the longest side. File names must include the artist’s last name and the title of the work (i.e. lastname_title.jpg). SPUN reserves the right to refuse a work which has been significantly misrepresented by its entry. 

 

The exhibition catalog will be generated using selected artwork submission images; therefore, it is imperative that artists adhere to the prospectus guidelines regarding images.

Jurying Work will be selected for the exhibition by the juror on the basis of digital image entries. All selected artists will receive a complimentary full-color copy of the SPUN 2017 catalogue.

 

Delivery of Accepted Work Shipped work must arrive at NEST Arts Factory Gallery no later than October 6, 2017. Artists are responsible for paying shipping costs, including any insurance, with the carrier of their choice to and from NEST. Reusable packing materials will be retained by NEST for return shipping. NEST and SPUN will not be responsible for damage due to incorrect packing materials or insufficient container when returning artwork as it was originally shipped. Artists must provide a pre-paid shipping label for return of artwork. Artwork may be dropped off in person at NEST Arts Factory on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 1-4 pm.

fiber art (noun)

Fiber art refers to fine art whose material consists of natural or synthetic fiber and other components, such as fabric or yarn.

 

It focuses on the materials and on the manual labour on the part of the artist as part of the works' significance, and prioritizes aesthetic value over utility.

Liability and Responsibility NEST Arts Factory Gallery will take reasonable precaution in handling accepted artwork. NEST Arts Factory will only be responsible for artwork while it is in its possession. NEST Arts Factory Gallery’s liability for theft or damage of the artwork shall be limited to 60% of the sale price. Artists are responsible for insuring their work until the moment it arrives at NEST and from the moment it leaves NEST when it is shipped back to the artist.

 

Submission of work shall constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to the conditions set forth in this prospectus. The acceptance of an entry in the exhibition shall further include permission to photograph work and use images for publicity and educational purposes.

 

Sales A commission of 40% will be retained by NEST Arts Factory Gallery on all sales. A sale price must be indicated for all work. Artists will be paid for works sold within 30 days after the closing date of the exhibition and collection of the sales proceeds.

 

Publication All selected artists will receive a complimentary full-color copy of the SPUN 2017 

catalog. SPUN reserves the right to exclude a submitted image from the print catalog if it does not adhere to the image specifications detailed herein.
